District Conference-

Presiding: President Russon

Purpose: regular conference

People present: President and sister Russon and the 10 Elders from the Zurich land district.

Place: Wetzikon 


Talks: 

1. District Leader0 Guber – reviewed districts

        Golden investigators: 

a) Elder Musik has made his own “vortrag” with slides that anyone can use. 

b) The mission home also has another slide “vortrag” from the German mission

2. Brother Andersen – ATTITUDE

a) Story- about a man in the army having the job of cleaning the latrine. A bad job, but he decided to         make it wonderful. So, he really made the heads clean. He had pride in his work (analogy                    between this and respect for the priesthood)


(1) Start day right  (2) sleep right  (3) story-Sons of Mosiah  (4) really catching the real meaning to their mission i.e. they couldn’t stand the thought of some people not reaching the Celestial Kingdom  (5) must overcome fear  (6) We can all council with our fathers and they can judge us, but one day we will have to stand in front of our Father in Heaven to tell him what we did with our time  (7) (be a fire carrier)!!


3. Brother Young- Helping Golden investigators to come through

        Good questions: (a) are you interested in religion?  (b) Do you go to church often?  (c) give the             people immediate goals  (d) challenge the people  (e) Failings- people don’t actually test the                 message


4. K.N. Gubler- What was the price to bring froth the Restored Gospel and the Book of Mormon? 

        D&C 137: (a) testimony of 2 mens’ blood  (b) best blood of the 18th century 


5. Sister Russon-

        Story- about seven visits to get a boy to go to primary because the parents weren’t enthused at             all. Finally, the boy did come and eventually he married the daughter of the primary teacher that         made the seven visits.


6. President Russon-

a) Difference between the Devil’s servants and the Lord’s is that the devil’s servants work all the                 time and we only part of the time.

b) New materials

                    i) Study plan

                    ii) Report forms: fellowshipping after the third lesson- name of member must be on                                    report. 

c) Object in building the Kingdom of God

                    1) YOU

                    2) Members

                    3) Convert baptisms (develop integrity, constancy, and devotion)

d) Story about Jesus Christ asking Peter if he loved Jesus Christ. The savior asks Peter thee times if         he loved Him. Well, something was lost in the translation. Going back to Greek text:

            1st- 1. Eros- physical love

            2nd- 2. Philosophical- love as a friend

            3rd- 3. Philadelphius- love as a brother

            4th, Aqaplo- love with all thy heart but Peter should have said (4th) love.

 Date: 12-31-64 CHRISTMAS CONFERENCE People Present: Whole mission 119 (last year 193) Time: 9am   Place: Zollikofen  Procedure: 1. President Russon: Nieksen-goes with Tulley to Lebanon. Future of the mission: (a) no more co-senior companionships (b) no more 2nd counselor missionaries (c) Future only 50 senior companions (d) Zone Conference Jan 28 with personal interview with Benson (e) Few district outings (f) Assistants to President: Whipple and Mariott **Chastisement: word of wisdom, sports, trips, be truthful with self. May 24th, 1963

  Date: 5-24-63 Interesting Experience- called the mission home yesterday to have Elder McCune bring the other pair of pants to my suit, that I bought from him, down to the missionary conference. I said, “Is Elder McCune there?” the mission president, Russon, answered and said “no”. Then asked me a question in German. It really startled me. I was caught speechless for a minute not knowing whether to answer of not; and if so, should I try in German? He repeated the question in German. This time I understood. “Wer ist diese? Or “who is this?” I answered in English. I finally got the message across \but it really brought the realism of how little German I do know. I imagine we will hear something today in conference about making English off limits. Yesterday, we also went out to do a little “Umfraging” or surveying. I didn’t even know the questions.
