CONFERENCE

People Present: Basel 1 District, President Russon & Hart

Time: 9am   Place: Basel 1

Procedure: 

1. Elders given the opportunity to talk 3-5 minutes about immediate goals for next 3 months. 

2. President Russon: Make goals Specific! Comparison June 1962: 8.5 actual inv., 23 baptisms, 236 hom.com. June 1963: 6.1 actual inv.. 31 baptisms, 102 hom.com. June 1964: 2.41 actual inv., 11 baptisms, 227 hom.com. ***Russon makes a problem for himself. D&C 20:37 conditions for baptism. McKay says 1 baptism/month. To be good and to do good are different. Solomon: In all they getting, get going. Doing the things that failures don't like to do. Example 211 degrees boiling but 212 is steaming. Grant Haggerty- insurance man in Wyoming must be dedicated for good self control. Success=effort x ability x time. Cubic s=c^3. China eggs or real eggs. Sanctity=Exaltation x atonement x Time consecrated. Surrender= endure x aim x time dedicated. Satisfaction= efficiency x attitude x time organized. Success= Effort x ability x time. No one gets into heaven except when heaven doesn't get into him. **John 15: vein-branch together. Christ is the Vein and we are the branches as disciples. Jesus wants that we are fruitful, but if we are not fruitful, we shall be cut off. 

3. President Hart: 3 farmers at harvest. 3 fields. One went into field with dull sickle. One sharpened to long. and one did it just right. All the problems in the world can be solved with two worlds "press on" **Book of Mormon is key to Conversion (1) recognize problem (2) Give answer (3) Answer depends on Revelation (4) Book of Mormon is revelation.

 Date: 12-31-64 CHRISTMAS CONFERENCE People Present: Whole mission 119 (last year 193) Time: 9am   Place: Zollikofen  Procedure: 1. President Russon: Nieksen-goes with Tulley to Lebanon. Future of the mission: (a) no more co-senior companionships (b) no more 2nd counselor missionaries (c) Future only 50 senior companions (d) Zone Conference Jan 28 with personal interview with Benson (e) Few district outings (f) Assistants to President: Whipple and Mariott **Chastisement: word of wisdom, sports, trips, be truthful with self. "Far more men fail from ignorance of their strength rather than knowledge of their weakness." possessions of man dilute the spirit.  2. May 24th, 1963

  Date: 5-24-63 Interesting Experience- called the mission home yesterday to have Elder McCune bring the other pair of pants to my suit, that I bought from him, down to the missionary conference. I said, “Is Elder McCune there?” the mission president, Russon, answered and said “no”. Then asked me a question in German. It really startled me. I was caught speechless for a minute not knowing whether to answer of not; and if so, should I try in German? He repeated the question in German. This time I understood. “Wer ist diese? Or “who is this?” I answered in English. I finally got the message across \but it really brought the realism of how little German I do know. I imagine we will hear something today in conference about making English off limits. Yesterday, we also went out to do a little “Umfraging” or surveying. I didn’t even know the questions.
