Date: 8-23-63 Yesterday, we went up to Wald and worked with the brethren there. The whole day as filled with interesting events. First, a member of the Church here, repaired my Moped enough that I could ride it to Wald, but the bike would always slip out of gear. Anyway, we made it to Wald. The area there was pretty nice in my opinion because it had never been worked out too much. That evening my companion and Brother Frehner’s companion, Elder Nielson, took the motor bikes and went to Uetikon to catch a few old referrals. So that evening, Elder Frehner and I went and worked in Wald. I had the opportunity to give the first conclusion of the first discussion which was a lot of fun with a little anguish. Anyway, we got back and waited for Gubler and Frehner to return. At 11pm I climbed in Frehner’s bed0expecting that my bike probably broke down. Well, at 11:30pm Frehner is waking me up. He tells me that my bike had a flat tire down in Rapperswil and he had ridden up on Elder Gubler...

Date: 8-18-63 We had a couple of our investigators out to church today. We have been doing a lot of praying for this one couple. They also have been praying for a conviction to the things that we have told them. This family (Brother and sister Oberholzer) is just really great. I hope and pray that they will “come through” and bne baptized. The church can really help them in their lives. After Church this fine family bought a lunch for us (a nice Wienershnitzel dinner). This afternoon we talked to an English gal. An unmarried gal of about 60. She really was sharp. She had lived just about all over the world, however, spending about the last 15 years in Hong Kong. She is about the most cultured person I, in my whole life have talked with. She had just a fantastic memory. We asked her why. She said she had a photographic memory, so what of a “nussents” however, she said. She was really well informed about the Far-East.

Date: 8-14-63 Well, pedaling a bicycle is a little harder than riding a Moped around. It is also a little slower getting around, but I am sure the exercise is good for me.  This evening while going around and checking on a cottage meeting. We had an interesting experience. A little girl in her pajamas with her mother behind stock, lead her out the door to see what two Americans looked like. The 4-year-old girls said “Aber Diese Sind Kein Neger!” or, “they are not colored!” My companion and I had to explain to the little girl that we were Americans, nevertheless.  Today we also had the opportunity again to play softball with some Swiss kids for the second time. The kids are still on vacation; they seem to enjoy the game and it is making a good environment to tract in the neighborhood. One of the kids named Oscar go hit by a flying bat but soon recovered after we bought them all a soda-pop. I was sort of worked, but I would hate to have a hurt kid.

Date: 8-10-63 Yesterday I thought I was an aerobat. My motor- velo started to give me a little trouble. My muffler broke off, so I could not ride it through town. We took it to the closest bike shop to see when he cold fix it, but because he didn’t have the parts, he couldn’t have it fixed till the following day. We needed our bikes that night so we decided to take my LOUD bike to Rapperswil to see if someone could fix it that day. About halfway to Rapperswil, i.e.  to say midway between Rut and Rappenswil, I had an accident. In an effort to turn off the motor while going at full speed (30 km/h). Because of the noise I got shocked and cranked the wheel and low and behold…  Yes, I rolled three times!! Surprisingly enough I only had a cut finger, skinned elbow, and sore back. Fortunately, I rolled well. However, my motor bike was bent up a little. We took it to the shop and the man said it would cost about 140 sFR to fix it so I decided to buy a pedal bike. Well, that set me bac...

Date: 8-8-63 Yesterday evening we had a very interesting with a Swiss schoolteacher. It seems as though we talk to quite a few schoolteachers. They appear to be the only people at times that are not afraid to hear our message. The fellow we talked to last night was exceptionally sharp. He knows the Bible fairly well. As an exception to the rule, he wasn’t a member of the Canton Church but a Methodist. We talked about the Thirteenth Article of Faith. He asked some real good questions about the Third article, i.e. the meaning of the words law and ordinances of the Gospel- and also about the Tenth.  We could answer the first one quite well, but the tenth, i.e. the restoration of the 10 tribes of Israel and the 2 Jerusalems gave us some trouble. Boy, when we got home, we did a little studying. But strangely enough the login in the Bible isn’t to good to prove the erection of the New Jerusalem on the American continent. But nevertheless we got shot down. Next time we will do litt...

August 1st, 1963

Date: 8-1-63 Yesterday, we were down in Chur working with the brethren there. It was sort of bad that we couldn’t have styed the full day down there, but we had to get back by 9:30pm to give the bus to the President. This was our last opportunity to also take a few pictures while we traveled over these roads- because from now on, when we go to Chur, we will go by train.  We should also have an interesting time starting to ride a bike again, that is if they still run.  I finally have received my strength back which is a blessing. I was pretty bad there for a couple of days- barely even able to do tracting.  I just about have the S.D. learned. You know, it just is the old problem of applying yourself. Once you do that, the rest follows quite easily. But getting the drive and motivation is the difficult part.  This afternoon we visited this English lady and her niece who has just been here three weeks from England. The niece was about 17. It was very interesting ...
