I thought I would enter the happens from the conference of yesterday. 


District Leaders Conference

Date: 28 August 1963

Place: Mission Home Zurich

Purpose: District organization (1) filing information  (2) Evaluation of Elders

People Present: President Russon and all district leaders with companions – 37 people.


Procedure: 

1) President Russon- explanation of new organization

        a. New 2nd Counselor- Brother Weber

        b. New- 2 traveling Elders teams

                i. Hildebrant and Companion – eastern Switzerland 

                ii. Wood and comanion – Western Switzerland 

2) Hildebrandt- District organization 

        a. A filing book expainied

        b. Control of materials

3) Wood- Evaluation of Elders and Sisters

4) Weber- Story- about a Corporal asking a Sergeant to take a message to the General. The                     Sergeant said, “I’ll do my best” but the Corporal said, “I don’t want your best, but I want the                 message taken to the General. “The sergeant said, “I’ll do it or die. “The Corporal said, “I don’t             want you to die, but I want the job done.” Correlation between story and the work that we are                 doing here in Switzerland

5) President Russon- Leadership

        a. Where much is required, much is given

        b. The presidency will be working with the Elders on an impromptu basis. Only the District                         Leader will know which pairs will be worked with that day

        c. Alternative approach in teaching discussions starting out with the 4th conclusion on the                         second discussion and tell about the Book of Mormon

        d. Leadership

                i. Golden rule- what you want of others, do unto others

                ii. Love your enemies because you probably made them 

                iii. You can’t push a string, you must lead it



We had an interesting time yesterday as we worked with the brethren in Chur. One of the Elders there has about four months to go on his mission. He is really on his trunk. It really is a sad thing to see. It is an experience to feel like you must lead him. It tells me more and more why it is so important to know what you are supposed to do in this life and then do it. There is nothing like the man that follows through with that which he has planned. I hope and pray that I won’t be a Heuchler (hypocrite). It will require a bit more work on my part. But things have really been going well. I have the S.D. learned and up to point 6 learned. I am going to have to concentrate and learn the rest. But I will heed the Lord to help me after all that I do.
