People Present: 10 Elders, mission president and 2nd counselor

Time: 8,30am     Place: Lugano-Paradiso

Procedure:

1. Opening Remarks by district leader, Song, Prayer

2. Mascaro: Talk on success (a) definition/obtainement of goal (b) must work at it and become more diligent (c) 10 commandments 1. Work hard 2. Study hard 3. have initiative 4. Love your work 5. be exact 6. feeling of conquest 7. personality 8. help and share with others 9. be democratic 10. Do your best (d) Many people fall into fortune but never fall into success

3. Member and Missionary-Investigator Relationship (cavalli)  1. Presents play and 3 characters

(1) Gung-ho/ potential 2nd counselor  (2) New Senior after 20 months    (3) New Elder from States reading Play

    *reads scriptures in Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Bible with respect to responsible of members and people in general 

    * New baptized member (a) find their goals (b) Likes and dislikes (c) Check on understanding of Gospel (d) Gentleness and courtesy; can't beat it into them (e) love is a necessity 

4. President Russon: (a) report on boys in Lebanon (b) Manner of conversion: what is it? when does it occur? How does it feel? Who is converted? (c) Must have contrition or a contrite heart. A feeling of having done worry and wanting to do good continually. Then, they are willing to make a covenant with the Lord. This gives us the key D&C 20: Conversion is spiritually and physically: healing forgiveness of sin = synonymous  (d) Tantamount; you recall Franco, Leva, Hartman (e) 2 Peter 1:3-10

Future of the mission: (a) no more co-senior companionships (b) no more 2nd counselor missionaries (c) Future only 50 senior companions (d) Zone Conference Jan 28 with personal interview with Benson (e) Few district outings (f) Assistants to President: Whipple and Mariott **Chastisement: word of wisdom, sports, trips, be truthful with self. May 24th, 1963

  Date: 5-24-63 Interesting Experience- called the mission home yesterday to have Elder McCune bring the other pair of pants to my suit, that I bought from him, down to the missionary conference. I said, “Is Elder McCune there?” the mission president, Russon, answered and said “no”. Then asked me a question in German. It really startled me. I was caught speechless for a minute not knowing whether to answer of not; and if so, should I try in German? He repeated the question in German. This time I understood. “Wer ist diese? Or “who is this?” I answered in English. I finally got the message across \but it really brought the realism of how little German I do know. I imagine we will hear something today in conference about making English off limits. Yesterday, we also went out to do a little “Umfraging” or surveying. I didn’t even know the questions.
